6/14/2023 0 Comments Yamaha red label no truss rodI've been looking for that model for a long time. Sunday I picked up a red label FG-150 on CraigsList. He said it's probably worth only about $1000! There isn't much interest in the early archtop guitars, the wartime flat tops are much more popular. I figured it had to be worth a few thousand dollars! I sent pictures and the story to a guy I know who knows a thing or two about vintage Gibson guitars. An amazing story! I promised her I would find out some info on it and find what it is worth. The guitar is housed in a hand made wooden case made by a guy who "borrowed" it from the 60's until the 90's. It's polished up like it left the factory last week. It's in great shape, with 2 small cracks in the top and some divots in the fretboard but no divots in the frets. An arch top with a pin bridge! It belonged to her grandfather. Hopefully I'll get to take some pictures tonight.īecause I was talking to her about the history of Yamaha FG's she brought out an old Gibson guitar. But the rest of the numbers don't fit into any date format. Assuming the first digit (1) is the year, it's a 1971. Another neck reset! It has a 7 digit serial number. And the usual high action, 3/16" at the 12th fret. Last night I picked up a somewhat minty red label FG-230 (12 string) from the original owner, with 3 small dings in the top and some scratches on the lower bout where it would sit on your leg.
